The AHL’s Albany Devils have again recalled forwards Kelly Zajac and Bryan Haczyk from the Trenton Titans. Both teams have a 3 in 3 this weekend, so it’s unlikely to expect either player back for Friday’s contest against Elmira.
If finally 100% healthy, it wouldn’t be surprising if this was the last time we saw Zajac. Clearly the more skilled of the two players, the 24-year-old has posted nine points in 12 games with Trenton, and had a goal and an assist in his lone game with the A-Devils this season.
As for Haczyk, the hard-worker recorded his first AHL point — an assist — in his previous promotion this season, and has scored five goals in 18 games with the capital city club this year.
With David Laliberte set to return after missing Wednesday’s game thanks to a cortisone injection in his knee, that leaves one spot open. Brad Peltz and Corey Tamblyn both sat out yesterday, and Paul Lee and Mike Ullrich are both set to join the team before Friday. It would not be surprising to see one of the forwards let go before the start of the weekend, either in a straight out release or in a trade for a defenseman…however, the latter may be wishful thinking, as many teams are asking for a king’s ransom in exchange for a blueliner.
