New Year, Same Problems…Titans Allow Four On Power Play En Route To Preseason Opener Loss

(PR) Voorhees, NJ – Despite showing vast improvement from last season, the Trenton Titans, ECHL member and proud affiliate of the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, dropped the first of a weekend, preseason set to the Reading Royals, 5-1, in front of a standing room only crowd at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees on Friday night.

Julien Cayer, Adam Cromrie, Tyler Gron and David Vallorani each recorded a power play goal during the first two and a half periods of play, with Yannick Tifu making it 5-0 Reading (1-0) on an even strength marker at 13:17 of the third. Pier-Olivier Morin got the only goal for the Titans (0-1) at 13:33, poking home the rebound off a Ryan Hayes wrister. On the night Reading went 4-for-9 on the man advantage, while Trenton was 0-for-4, including a 5-on-3 opportunity early in the first period.

Brandon Anderson was stellar between the pipes for Reading, turning away 27 shots – most of them high-quality chances in close. Trenton’s Niko Hovinen, on loan from Adirondack (AHL), stopped 24 in the loss.

These two teams square off again on Saturday October 6th at 7:05 pm, this time at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA, in the second and final preseason game for both squads. Titans’ fans can follow the action on Twitter by going to @TTitansPBP.

The Trenton Titans returned in the 2011-12 hockey season after a five year hiatus and boasted a 26.1% increase in attendance over the previous year, the largest of any team in the 20-team ECHL. Opening Night for the 2012-13 season is October 12 at home against the Greenville Road Warriors.
