Titans Add Nagy, Melnychuk

As it turns out, that training camp roster wasn’t quite final.  The Trenton Titans have signed defenseman Brodie Melnychuk and forward Kory Nagy  If you’ve been a fan of hockey in the capital city for a while now, Nagy’s is a name you know.  Melnychuk’s likely isn’t.

Nagy, a fifth round draft choice by New Jersey in 2008, never realized his potential in the organization despite numerous opportunities to do so.  After scoring nine goals in 57 games with the Trenton Devils in 2010-11, the 22-year-old graduated to the AHL for a full season and struggled mightily, tallying just eight points in 53 games.

As for Melnychuk, the 21-year-old defenseman is looking to make his pro debut after five seasons in juniors with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL.  Melnychuk should bring some size to the blueline — he stands six feet, three inches tall and weighs around 195 pounds — and also posted impressive numbers at the junior level as well, scoring a career-high eight goals last season.  The Saskatchewan native reached the playoff in all five seasons he played in the WHL, and was an outstanding +46 in the 2009-10 season.
