Titans Add Conboy

Apparently, the player signings aren’t quite done in Trenton. The Titans have signed 24-year-old winger Andrew Conboy to a contract. If the last name sounds familiar, his older brother, Tim, has played in the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Conboy was the Montreal Canadiens fifth round draft choice in 2007, and the 6-foot-4, 200 pounder has spent the last 3 1/2 seasons in the American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs. His best year came in 2010-11, when he tallied career highs in goals (13), assists (10), points (23), penalty minutes (116) and plus/minus (3) all while playing in all 20 postseason games for Hamilton.

Conboy did play collegiately at Michigan State for one season, but it was not without incident. He’s perhaps best known for a retaliatory play on Michigan’s Steven Kampfer, who had just knocked down teammate Corey Tropp with a check. Conboy’s actions, as well as Tropp’s subsequent stick work, got both of them suspended for the rest of the season.

But he did make steady progress with the Canadiens since the incident, and played in the NHL preseason as recently as two seasons ago. He played just ten games for Hamilton last season due to injury, and is looking to kickstart his career in the capital city.
