Titans Bring Back Akins, Add Beauregard

Drew Akins comes back to the Titans after a strong showing in 2011-12

The Trenton Titans have made two more signings official, announcing that they’ve brought back forward Drew Akins and have signed Alexandre Beauregard.

Akins is a 26-year-old centerman whom the Titans acquired from the now (already) defunct Chicago Express at last year’s trade deadline.  The Minnesota native has scored just four goals in 41 ECHL games between Gwinnett, Chicago and Trenton, but the 5-foot-11 centerman managed to tally six points in 12 games with the Titans.  Unfortunately, his most notable moment with the team likely came in Reading, when he was pummeled in an ill-advised bout with the much larger Kyle Neuber.

A far more willing and capable combatant should be Beauregard.  On a typically-undersized Trenton team, Beauregard will add some size and toughness to a team that appears to need both.  The 21-year-old winger will be entering his first professional season after finishing his junior career in the QMJHL.  He recorded triple-digit penalty minute seasons in each of his last two years and scored a career high 8 goals and 16 assists while with Rouyn-Noranda in 2009-10.

Both signings were made official by the team during their Monday Ustream broadcast.  Several other players have agreed to deals, but the team has not yet released that information to the public.

Officially, the team has signed the following players for the 2012-13 season: Drew Akins, Alexandre Beauregard, Ryan Hayes, Jacob Drewiske, Steve Schultz, Ray DiLauro, Eric Baier, Matt Germain and Mark Armstrong.  Additionally, Gregor Hanson has officially agreed to terms.

The team is expected to add a few players with Devils ties, around 4 or 5 players from the Flyers affiliation and a few returning and outside players as well.
