Orland-O

(PR) ORLANDO, FL – On a night where they raised the banner recognizing the 2000-01 Turner Cup title team from the now defunct IHL, the Orlando Solar Bears turned back the clock – and the Trenton Titans – for an entertaining 6-4 win before 8,650 fans at the Amway Center last night.

Trenton ends its Florida swing 1-2, and carries a record of 18-22-3-3 (42 points) into its upcoming three-game homestand, with 26 games remaining in the regular season. Orlando moves to 21-22-2-2 (45) in a tight Eastern Conference race

The entire game was a punch-counter punch affair, as the Titans overcame a first-minute goal with two of their own. Kevin Baker (6, 1st as a Titan) and J. S. Berube (3) each ripped shots past Solar Bears keeper Pat Killeen (W, 29 saves, 4-6-2-3) for a 2-1 first period lead.

After Orlando tied the game early in the second, Trenton countered at 9:45 with Mike Ullrich’s sixth of the year for a 3-2 advantage. A turnover in the Titans defensive zone allowed Chris Lawrence to tie the game again with 1:30 left in the period.

Once again Trenton responded, this time it was Kory Nagy (4) going coast-to-coast and blowing one past Killeen at 3:03 of the third for a 4-3 lead.

It would be the final lead for the Titans. After tying the game at the eight minute mark, they took the lead for good when Ryan Blair – just out of the penalty box – slipped behind the Titans on a breakaway. His effort was denied by Cal Heeter (L, 28 saves, 0-1), but the rebound bounced off a charging Titan coming back on defense. Unable to stop in close after the sprint back, all three crossed over the goal line and into the net for the eventual game-winner.

Orlando added an empty-netter in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Trenton, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, now brings its Travelling Stick Show back home for a three-game stretch with Gwinnett (Wednesday, 7:05), arch-rival Reading (Friday, 7:05 pm) and a season’s first meeting with Kalamzoo (Saturday, 7:35 pm). All the action can be heard on 107.7 FM (Trenton area) and online at either 1077theBronc.com or AmericaOne.com. “The Bronc” Daryle Dobos, will once again call all the action.
